Welcome to the Reef Group,
part of Gilmerton New Church
The Reef Story...
Years ago, people were trying to renew the fish stocks off the West coast of Scotland. Releasing fish into the sea
failed as the fish rapidly swam off. Then one person had the idea of making an artificial reef by dropping huge concrete
blocks onto the sea bed. After a while sea life gathered around these blocks and when fish were released near them they provided
safety, nourishment and security. The fish stayed
and flourished!
The Reef Groups...
The Reef groups are the blocks around which God will grow his new church in Gilmerton, committed to the church and the wider community.
These groups have changed since they began in 2002, meeting in different places but they have always provided a place of worship,
friendship, prayer and teaching.
Sunday Reef
There are
around 12 adults who meet every Sunday evening, 7pm to 9pm. We plan in month
blocks with four different people
providing a house, leading the worship, the prayers and the Bible
study. At present we are working through the book of Acts, letting God guide us as he guided that early church.

Friday Reef
A small group of teenagers who meet in Liberton High after school finishes on a Friday. We talk,
eat, laugh, pray, play, explore the Bible and generally grow into the people God wants us to be. This group has grown out
of our wider work in the schools. Click here to find out more
......and meet Granny!!!
Joint Reef
Every couple of months we join up the Friday and
Sunday Reefs. We have gone to the cinema, had
BBQ, been cycling (and coffee shop testing) in Glentress
Forest Park and staged the Great Edinburgh Treasure
Hunt. After our joint activities we share
worship and communion.
